A voluntary organisation, Punjabi Listeners Club formed on the 3rd Anniversary of BBC Radio Leicester’s Punjabi Programme on 9th September 1995 organised Coronation of King Charles 3rd party celebrations with Dove Rise residents on the drives of 14 and 15 Dove Rise, Oadby on Sunday 7th May 2023 from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm which raised £125 for British Heart Foundation.

The Guest of Honour was the Leader of Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, Councillor Samia Haq who cut the Royal Cake at 3.30 pm and congratulated all the residents and organisers on the Coronation of King Charles 3rd.  Others that attended included Sulakhan Singh Dard BEM who went to the Garden Tea Party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 3rd May; Councillor for Woodlands Ward Santokh Singh Atwal and Environmentalist Mr. Dhesi.  Apart from enjoying the food and drinks in glorious sunshine the celebration gave everyone a chance to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles 3rd together.

Sikh Community leader Gurnam Singh Ex-General Secretary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara pointed out that Punjabi Listeners Club is an excellent example of voluntary work which has not only been organising programmes without any financial help but have also raised thousands of pounds for good causes.  As for its Co-ordinator Mr. Virk, I personally presented him with the Punjabis in Britain All Party Parliamentary Group Award for Promoting Punjabi Language and Culture in the presence of Sikh Scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 2010 as he was unable to collect it from House of Commons due to injury. And the year before he was one of two people from UK who were invited to the 6th Annual Sikh American Heritage Dinner at Capitol Hill, Washington DC, USA.

Event organisers Kenneth Ellis and Tarlochan Singh Virk said they would like to thank everyone who contributed for the BHS charity particularly Dr, Sujaan Singh-Gulf War Veteran and Santokh of FC Khalsa Leicester as well as all staff at Knighton Self Service for making the celebrations successful and memorable.
