Southall, London — A new chapter in one of Southall’s most iconic culinary legacies began last week with the official opening of Brilliant Gastro by Dipna Anand in Parkside Yards on Thursday 24th April, a vibrant new gastropub located in the heart of The Green Quarter by Berkeley.
The celebratory launch event was attended by the Mayor of Ealing Cllr Yvonne Johnson, Deirdre Costigan MP for Ealing Southall, friends and family of the Anands who own Brilliant, Berkeley representatives, and members of the community. In a heartfelt moment, the children of Shanker Anand, restaurant co-owner and brother to Dipna Anand, had the honour of cutting the ribbon to officially open the doors.
Brilliant Gastro is a modern evolution of the beloved Brilliant Restaurant, a Southall institution since the 1970s. Founded by the Anand family, Brilliant Restaurant has long been celebrated for its authentic Punjabi cuisine, warm hospitality, and a legacy that has earned national recognition—including fans such as HRH King Charles and celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsay. The launch of Brilliant Gastro brings an innovative and contemporary take on Punjabi cuisine in a brand-new space designed for gastropub dining and casual drinking for the whole of Southall, and beyond.
Guests at the launch were treated to an array of canapés and bowl food from Brilliant Gastro’s exciting new menu, offering a first taste of what’s to come. Signature bites included modern twists on Punjabi classics.

Speaking at the event, celebrity chef, author and co-owner of Brilliant Gastro Dipna Anand referred to the recent closure of the iconic Brilliant Restaurant and said:
“For over 50 years our family poured our hearts into The Brilliant. It wasn’t just a restaurant, it was our second home, our childhood, our everything. The aim is to take the legacy of the Brilliant further, and instead of packing it away, give it a new home. A new heartbeat. This is our new baby, born out of family and built on tradition.”
Marcus Blake, Managing Director of St George said in his speech at the event: “Dipna and the Anand family have such a rich history here in Southall, and the Brilliant brand is truly iconic. It’s wonderful to see how they are evolving, to bring a fresh and exciting dining experience in the form of Brilliant Gastro….I have a feeling this is going to be very popular spot for the existing Brilliant fan base, our residents and community alike!”
With its modern menu, friendly design, and deep family roots, Brilliant Gastro is set to become a culinary landmark.
Located within Southall’s Green Quarter, the new restaurant is part of an expanding canal side community by Berkeley that offers much more than just beautiful homes. The development is fast becoming a destination for locals and visitors alike, with leisure activities including Game4Padel padel club, ParkPlay, a canoe club, a ceramics studio, tree nursery and now the Brilliant Gastro restaurant – providing spaces to relax, stay active, enjoy family time, and connect over great food and drinks.
