Amber Sandhu announced as the new Saturday Afternoon host for BBC Asian Network

BBC Asian Network has announced that Amber Sandhu will become the new Saturday afternoon (3pm – 6pm) host for Asian Network. Amber will be taking over from AJD who will continue to host Thursday evening’s (6pm-8pm).

Midlands-born sports fanatic, entered the industry through the BBC early careers scheme and has since worked across BBC Sport, Midlands Today and BBC Radio WM.

Having previously interned for Asian Network back in 2019, Amber has since stepped in to cover various Saturday weekend shows since December and has proved herself to be a big hit with the listeners, helping her to secure a more permanent role on the network.

Her new show will deliver Asian Network Certified Throwbacks 3pm-4pm followed by all the best in music, sport and entertainment through till 6pm.

Speaking about her new role, Amber Sandhu, said: ‘Well this all feels very surreal, exciting and mad all at the same time! I only told my Mum yesterday because I couldn’t actually believe it.

“Can’t wait to bring the new energy, some (average) bants, big tunes and all the fun Saturday vibes – giving the people what they want and having a laugh along the way. And hey, I reckon Amber in the afternoon has a kinda ring to it you know!”

It’s been truly inspiring to see her progress through her career in radio over the years and I am confident her newrole will bring a new fresh vibe to Saturday afternoons which we are very excited to have.”

Amber’s first show for Asian Network will air live from Birmingham on Saturday 27th May. DJ AJD will continue to host popular Thursday 6pm-8pm show and would like to thank all of his Saturday listeners for their continued support over the years.

Islah will leave the Asian Network after two years of hosting the Saturday afternoon 1-3PM slot, Islah’s last show will be on June 3rd. A new co-host with Mehreen Baig will be announced soon.
