PARKASH PURAB OF SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI CELEBRATIONS IN LEICESTER UK

The Parkash Purab of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj was celebrated by the Sadh Sangat and Gursikh families of Leicester on Thursday 29th December 2022 from 12.00 noon till 8.30pm at Gurdwara Shri Guru Dasmesh Sahib , 49 Gipsy Lane, Leicester.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born in 1666 in the city of Patna in Bihar state of India where he stayed for about 5 years . He became the tenth Guru of the Sikhs at the age of 9 years in 1675 and remained so for 33 years.  Guru Ji established the holy city of Paunta Sahib at the shore of Yamuna in 1684 and Muktsar Guru Kanshi Damdama Sahib in 1706.  Guru Ji left for heavenly abode at Hazoor Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra state in 1708 at the age of 42 years.

The celebrations started with the recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji, the sacred bani of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj at mid-day.  The Dasam Granth scripture of the Sikhs starts with Jaap Sahib on pages 1 to 10 with 199 verses.  The second bani in Dasam Granth is the Akaal Ustat on pages 11 to 38 with 271.5 verses.  Both these banis praises the Almighty Waheguru Ji and were compiled at Anandpur Sahib by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The whole congregation did the Jaap of Akaal Ustat from 4.00 -5.30 pm.

After Rehras Sahib Ji Pathh and Ardas for the Chardi Kala of everyone Sikh children performed Shabad Kirtan from 6.15 -7.00 pm which was appreciated by all.  Bhai Jaswant Singh Ladhupana Dhadi Jatha informed the sadh sangat ji about the life and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and gave a very good example.

 Bulleh Shah, a Muslim saint of Punjab, a contemporary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, paid a glowing tribute to the Guru in the following words:” I neither talk of the past, nor of the future; I speak of the time of our contemporary, Guru Gobind Singh, and proclaim openly that but for that Guru, all the Hindus would have been converted to a foreign culture and religion.”

Throughout the celebrations a stall highlighted the excellent charity work done by Khalsa Aid.  All the donations from the celebrations were presented to Khalsa Aid. Bhai Balinder Singh Samra, one of the organisers of the Parkash Purab celebrations thanked all the volunteers for their countless efforts and President of the Gurdwara Sahib Bhai Jarnail Singh Rana for all the support offered and helping to make the celebrations memorable.
